Is breathing dangerous? – a new educational video by ADAMED SmartUP

1 March 2017

The main topic of ADAMED SmartUP’s new educational video is radon – a dangerous and radioactive gas, which, as it turns out, we breathe in every day. So, is breathing dangerous? This question will be answered by Dariusz Aksamit, a known populariser of science and lecturer at ADAMED SmartUP.

In the first scene of the film, Dr. Aksamit presents a seemingly empty jar labelled as radioactive, which, he claims, contains a dangerous substance – a radioactive gas, which, when inhaled into the lungs, contaminates the body from the inside. It is radon, a natural component of the air we breathe.

In this four-minute educational video, Dr. Aksamit explains, as always, in a clear and interesting way, where radon comes from and how it affects our health. This material enables us to also learn about the most advanced methods of measuring radon concentration. Dariusz Aksamit also explains at the Warsaw Central Laboratory for Radiological Protection how a radon chamber and a radon progeny particle size spectrometer work.

This video, along with other popular-science materials, is available at the ADAMED SmartUP programme website www.adamedsmartup.pl.
