The end of the science camp at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences
30 July 2019
The fifth edition of the ADAMED SmartUP science camp has just come to an end. During two weeks of intense activity, the most talented young people from every part of the country were provided with the opportunity to spread their wings and pursue their passion for science.
At the official closing ceremony, which took place on Friday, 26 July, the organizers handed out diplomas to the fifty participants and thanked them for their time and involvement in all the scheduled activities. There is no doubt that the ADAMED SmartUP camp produces incredible results and is a unique event in the science community, which one could become convinced about even before its ending, when all the students could demonstrate their knowledge during short, ten-minute group presentations.
This year’s edition of the programme was full of scientific attractions. Long hours were spent on mastering innovative laboratory research techniques. The participants were given the opportunity to acquire basic knowledge of the human anatomy in addition to learning about the practical application of quantum physics in technology. They found out how time-consuming the construction of a robot was and learned that the Schrödinger equation could tell us a lot not only about the structure of an atom but also chemical particles. As emphasized by numerous participants, the opportunity to meet their peers and take part in activities which were not directly associated with science, such as networking sessions, trips, cooking workshops or public speaking classes, was a huge added value of the event.
I wish I could take part in the camp again. A lot of wonderful young people have come here. The time we have spent together has been incredible and full of positive energy. And what matters most here – science. All the lectures and classes have been really valuable, says Emilia Staszór from Piotrków Trybunalski, a future student of biotechnology at the University of Warsaw. When asked about the benefits of the camp for herself, she answered: Self-confidence and the opportunity to meet all these people. For me, meeting all the participants, carers and lecturers has been the most incredible part of the camp.
All the participants of the fifth edition of the ADAMED SmartUP camp will have a chance to meet again in September, during the closing gala ceremony, when the winners of the main award, that is an individual educational consultation programme, will be announced. The best of the best may also obtain scientific scholarships.
