The 2nd edition of the scientific and educational ADAMED SmartUP project started in September 2015.
It attracted almost 3,500 participants, who took part in an innovative, virtual reality science game.
Milena realised that not only sugar and salt are “white death” and that every fully-fledged scientist has experienced at least one explosion in their lifetime when she was wondering how to get nitric acid for home-based production of nitroglycerine. She is a graduate of the Publiczne Gimnazjum nr 52 Ojców Pijarów (Piarists’ Public Middle School No. 52) in Krakow, which is also her home town, and she has been a finalist in numerous competitions, including the Małopolska Biology Competition, which she won. She says she likes unusual combinations, especially when it comes to TV shows, which would explain her love for House M.D. and The Penguins of Madagascar. She is also involved in drama classes.
He comes from the small town of Micigózd in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodship and he is a graduate of
Saint Hedwig the Queen High School in Kielce. Back in middle school, he was five times a laureate in provincial biology, chemistry and physics competitions. In addition, he is a finalist in the 29th Ecological Knowledge Olympiad and laureate of the 44th Biology Olympiad, in which he won a silver medal and came 11th in Poland. Apart from school activities, he participates in the “Szlachetna Paczka” (Noble Box) campaign and works as a volunteer at a Children’s Hospital and World Youth Day events.
Keen on biology, chemistry and mathematics, she lives in the village of Szałsza in Śląskie Voivodship and is attending the High School with Bilingual Departments No. 3 in Zabrze. In the future she plans to study medicine and she has already begun to gain experience in this sphere: she has been volunteering in the Artificial Heart Laboratory in Zbigniew Religa’s Foundation for Cardiac Surgery Development. Laureate of Provincial Subject Competition in chemistry. As far as her free time is concerned, whenever she is not studying, she spends it in an active way: horse riding, hiking in the mountains and walking with her dog. She won Poland’s Amateurs’ Masters in Dressage in 2015.
To study astronautics and to work for NASA as an engineer is his greatest dream. His project of a “modern tank” got him to the final stage of the E(x)plory Contest, which was – as he himself confirms – his greatest scientific achievement so far. He lives in Kąty Wrocławskie in the Dolnośląskie Voivodship. He graduated from Polonia Belgijska High School No. 14 in Wrocław. Besides science, he also takes care of his development in politics and economy, such as his participation in the European Youth Parliament.
He is not afraid of things he does not know as he starves for knowledge and for experience. So he says about himself, born and raised in Międzychód, Wielkopolskie Voivodship, student of Grey Ursulines’ group of schools in Pniewy, where he performed the duties of the school board chairperson. A laureate of the Provincial SuperMatematyk Contest, gives free private lessons in maths, and is active in the circle of interest in chemistry. Together with his team, he took 1st place in the regional Chess Competition, qualifying to the provincial stage. He is very active in his free time, mostly swimming in the nearby lakes.
A 16-year-old citizen of Gorzów Wielkopolski, this year’s graduate of Stowarzyszenie Edukacyjne Middle School in his hometown. His is a laureate of the Provincial Subject Competition in Physics and the Subject Competition in English. He took 4th place in the national contest in programing in the middle school students’ category. Apart from his development in exact science, he is also devoted to his other interests: he plays bass guitar and learns foreign languages – English, Spanish and German.
He call himself ‘a man with passion’. With his own-invented device called jRed, designed for controlling AV equipment, he took 5th place in the provincial contest entitled “Lubuski wynalazca” (Inventor from Lubuskie).
Furthermore, he is a laureate in provincial contests in physics, maths and chemistry, and also a member of the Młodzi Lokalni association. His greatest passion is physics and he would like to devote himself to this discipline in the future. Apart from that, he is also interested in mathematics and programing. He comes from Zielona Góra, where he studies at the Edward Dembowski High School No. 1
A 16-year-old from Mielec, laureate in the Provincial Contest in Mathematics while in the second grade of middle school. She took 1st place in the junior category of the National Contest in Cosmic Science; she was also a finalist of the Mathematical Olympiad for Middle School Students. Her greatest dream is to work as a scientist.
She was a member of the “Abrakadabra” dance group for 8 years. Laureate of the certificate “Młodzi Nieprzeciętni” (Outstanding Young) awarded yearly to talented youth by the President of Mielec. Her greatest dream is to work as a scientist and she is on the right track to fulfil this dream.
Jaromir is a laureate of the Department of Education’s competitions! Jaromir is passionate about forest wilderness and observing nature from close up, especially in the Bieszczady Mountains, where the power of nature is intermixed with the mysterious history. Apart from that he used to collect stamps, coins and insects. Jaromir conducted research into the influence of microorganisms on polymer degradation, took part in the E(x)plory competition for young scientists, became a laureate of the Department of Education’s competitions in biology, geography and Polish, as well as a finalist of the Department of Education’s competition in chemistry and he took 1st place in the Interprovincial Competition “Megamózgi”. Jaromir would like to acquire new skills in the fields that he is passionate about (biology and chemistry), in order to put them to use in scientific projects and answer the questions that seem to multiply as he expands his knowledge. Biotechnology and the disciplines that make use of practical biological knowledge (where he sees his future), whether to discover drugs against burdensome diseases or new technological solutions that allow for discovering the underlying truth (or mystery) about life – and therefore – about ourselves.
Agata is a finalist of the Department of Education’s competition in chemistry!
Agata has numerous interests, ranging from sports (horse riding and volleyball) and social issues (psychology) to science (chemistry, and especially biochemistry, biology and medicine). She also loves to travel. What impressed her the most so far were a trip to China and a cruise on the sailing ship Pogoria. Recently, she has been working on her English. Unfortunately, one person is not able to do everything at once, so some of her passions have to wait until the holidays – Agata would like to obtain a sailing certificate and go on a horse riding camp this year. Agata would like to become a finalist or the laureate of the Chemistry Olympiad, do well in her high school finals and then study medicine at Oxbridge.
During the holidays, she would also like to take internships in the field of medicine or biology in order to develop her skills and extend her knowledge in these disciplines.
Agata is also taking classes in the subjects that she needs to study in order to prepare for her high school finals and the Olympiad. She spends 1.5 hour per week preparing for the BMAT. Every hour spent in class is extremely valuable for Agata. The teachers show a different, more profound insight into each subject and motivate her to work hard.
The greatest scientific achievements:
Agata’s greatest scientific achievements involve participation in the Olympiad, becoming a finalist of the Department of Education’s competition in chemistry, an internship at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Warsaw University of Technology and receiving the ADAMED SmartUP programme scholarship.

The 1st edition of the scientific and educational ADAMED SmartUP project was inaugurated on 17 October 2014 by a scientific panel, which allowed its participants to get acquainted with the philosophy of the initiative. A multistage scholarship programme recruitment process started with an alternate reality game full of ambitious puzzles in biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics. It checked the participants’ knowledge as well as their ability to think logically and quickly connect the facts in practice. Then, the candidates took part in a science test. Those who scored highest in the test were asked to send in their application documents. The next stage were qualification interviews with the Scientific Council. Finally, in July 2015 the 50 most talented teenagers in Poland went to the innovative science camp.
Based on the scores obtained during the recruitment and the results at the camp, 10 laureates of the grand prize were selected – we met them in October 2015 at the gala. They received 10-month educational assistance in the form of tutoring tailored to their individual needs. Thanks to it, the young people can improve their competencies through extracurricular tutoring and language classes, scholarships and internships at laboratories and universities, as well as the opportunity to use motivational support. After that period, the best among the laureates will receive scholarships.
2nd edition at a glance
The 2nd edition of the scientific and educational ADAMED SmartUP project started in September 2015. It attracted almost 3,500 participants, who took part in an innovative, virtual reality science game. Its main purpose was to check their ability to think logically, creatively and in an “out-of-the-box” manner. The young people faced surprising puzzles and unexpected plot turns. Then, after verification of the received application documents and based on the evaluation interviews with the Scientific Council of the Programme, the 50 most talented participants were selected to take part in an innovative science camp. Several thousand post-primary school students competed to go to the camp in August 2016.
Finally, the ten most talented, ambitious and gifted laureates were announced on 12 September 2016 at a gala at the Copernicus Science Centre in Warsaw. The grand prize – an individual educational tutoring programme tailored to the laureates’ needs and research-related dreams – was won by Agata Janczak, Jaromir Hunia, Milena Malcharek, Maria Michna, Jakub Wornbard, Wiktor Czepczyński, Maciej Draguła, Mateusz Wawrzeńczyk, Jakub Dranczewski and Małgorzata Róg. After 10 months of mentorship and further pursuit of their passions, they can win a scientific scholarship.
Science camp of the 2nd edition of the programme
An innovative science camp, the stage of the Programme involving the 50 best participants, took place in August 2016 and lasted 2 weeks. The young science enthusiasts were divided into four subject groups: chemistry and biochemistry; medicine and medical sciences; engineering and robotics; and physics and new technologies.
Lectures conducted by leading scientists were intermixed with tests and experiments performed in well-equipped laboratories. There were also many trainings in public speaking and workshops in cooperation and team work,
accompanied by numerous trips to renowned science institutes.
Thanks to the cooperation with the Institute of Automatic Control and Robotics and Mechanical Faculty of Power and Aeronautical Engineering at the Warsaw University of Technology, the participants met the members of the Student Astronautical Club and Students’ Propulsion Association MELprop. The young participants also attended practical classes in an aerodynamic tunnel and on a flight simulator. On 16 August 2016, during their visit to the Science and Research Centre of the Adamed Group, the laureates had a chance to take a closer look at the specifics of work of the qualified scientific personnel responsible for implementing research projects at our company. They visited specialist research units and laboratories, including the “In-silico” Molecular Interactions Laboratory, Cellular Biology and Biotechnology Laboratory, Organic Synthesis Laboratory, Formulation and Technology Laboratory and the Analytical Laboratory. They visited also e.g. the Space Research Centre or the Institute of Laser Plasma.
3rd edition at a glance
Trzecia edycja programu naukowo-edukacyjnego ADAMED SmartUP rozpoczęła się we wrześniu 2016 r. Zgłosiło się do niej blisko 7 tys. uczestników, którzy proces rekrutacyjny rozpoczęli udziałem w internetowej grze tekstowej tzw. naukowym survivalu. Następnie na podstawie wyników, analizy ich dokumentów aplikacyjnych, testu oraz rozmów kwalifikacyjnych z Radą Naukową Programu wyłoniono 50-ciu uczestników innowacyjnego obozu. Po raz drugi odbył się on w Szkole Głównej Gospodarstwa Wiejskiego w Warszawie.
Finalnie, Ci, którzy wykazali się największym potencjałem i zaangażowaniem zostali laureatami nagrody głównej. 10 nazwisk wyłonionych zostało podczas uroczystej gali 5 września 2017 r., która odbyła się w Centrum Konferencyjnym Kopernik w Warszawie. Nagrodę główną, czyli 10-cio miesięczny pakiet indywidualnych konsultacji edukacyjnych otrzymali Wiktor Jaśniak, Magdalena Justyniarska, Piotr Juszczyk, Aleksandra Kamizela, Marcin Kępa, Anna Kotańska, Jędrzej Machtyl, Maciej Maciuszek, Bartosz Multan I Weronika Ormaniec. Po 10-ciu miesiącach opieki mentorskiej i dalszego rozwijania własnych pasji, mają oni szansę zdobyć stypendium naukowe.
50 najzdolniejszych uczniów szkół ponadpodstawowych z całej Polski, wybranych spośród blisko 7 tys. uczestników 3. edycji programu ADAMED SmartUP wzięło udział w odbywającym się od 16 do 29 lipca br. obozie naukowym. Był on dla nich zarówno nagrodą, jak i kolejnym etapem rywalizacji o stypendia naukowe. Uczestnicy tworzyli grupy: „Inżynieria i robotyka”, „Chemia i biochemia”, „Medycyna i nauki medyczne” oraz „Fizyka i nowe technologie”. Zajęcia prowadzone m.in. przez specjalistów z SGGW były bardzo różnorodne i kładły nacisk na pokazanie praktycznych zastosowań zdobywanej wiedzy. Odbyły się warsztaty m.in. z szycia chirurgicznego organów i krystalizacji białka czy konkurs budowania samolotów. Uczniowie wzięli też udział w wycieczkach do placówek naukowych takich jak Instytut Biologii Doświadczalnej PAN, Narodowe Centrum Badań Jądrowych i Środowiskowe Laboratorium Ciężkich Jonów czy Centrum Medyczne Kształcenia Podyplomowego. Tegoroczną nowością były zajęcia z posiewów bakterii czy proteolizy białek. Obozowicze odwiedzili również Centrum Badawczo – Rozwojowe Grupy Adamed w Pieńkowie.
