How do experiments influence the progress of science?

8 June 2016

Everyone knows how important experiments are. They allow us to verify a research hypothesis or to test an intuition. Leonardo Da Vinci himself wrote: “Experience never errs; it is only your judgments that err by promising themselves effects such as are not caused by your experiments.” Despite the great technological advancement in recent years, we still find it difficult to control an experiment’s results. Why? Because we can never be certain of the method used. That’s why constantly looking for new ways for assuring reliable results of analyses is so important.

A Chinese group of researchers from the Xiamen University whose research on a new non-invasive method of liver fibroses imaging was published in Nature turned out to be driven by similar motives.
