Express commercialisation 120 years ago

Is it possible for only a couple of months to pass between a scientific discovery and its clinical application? Surprisingly – yes! And in the 19th century! Even though words like “innovation”, “commercialisation” or “technology transfer” were not so accentuated back then.

November will mark 120 years from the discovery of “X radiation”, which turned medicine upside down.
It was an unprecedented example of the transfer of technology from basic research to general application. Sometimes too general.
